Welcome to St. Bernardine's Preschool.
We are excited to offer a stimulating and loving Christian environment for your children. Our teachers assist preschoolers in developing their potential as children of God. We look forward to the many special activities we will share with your children as well as the entire family.
Our program is based on the philosophy that focuses on fundamental principles of the growth of children. The emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual stages of children occur in a predictable, orderly pattern. However, the time sequence of these stages is unique to each child. In addition, each child has his/her own individual style of learning. Our Christ-centered emergent curriculum provides "hands-on" activities that develop early learning skills and encourage children to become critical thinkers, researchers, and life-long learners. Invaluable learning also takes place through social experiences that encourage problem solving, creative thinking, cooperation, and Godly character development.
Our activities and educators make our center an inviting place for children to form a strong foundation for school readiness and Christian character. Upon leaving our school, children are better able to make appropriate choices and sound decisions and have emotional security, independence, and a sense of worth through God's love.
We hope you'll join us on this exhilarating journey of discovery, growth and delight.
Sincerely,
Charlene Barkes
Director
St. Bernardine of Siena Preschool, mindful of its mission to be a witness of love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color, disability, gender, religious background, or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning admission and continued enrollment of a student in the preschool is based on a student's emotional, academic, and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the needs of the student. Priority is given to St. Bernardine parishioners based on availability of programs offered.
Open enrollment for our Summer and Fall sessions occurs in February. Parents are encouraged to complete an application and turn it into the office so that they can be notified of our Open Enrollment period. During the school year, the center will admit students as space becomes available in a classroom.

Strengthening Children, Families, and Our Community.
Our History.
St. Bernardine of Siena Preschool opened its doors in September 1996. Starting out with only a couple of classrooms, the center has grown to having 10 classrooms and providing services for children ages 2-6 years old. The center is one of the first and largest preschools in the LA Archdiocese.
Our School's Mission and Philosophy.
The philosophy of education at St. Bernardine's Preschool is centered in Christ. It is concerned with the spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical development of the child. The Catholic school, in conjunction with the parent, is the educational setting by which knowledge, culture, and the values are developed within the child.
With Jesus as our model, St. Bernardine's preschool, provides a deep foundation of faith and academics in a safe and loving environment. Each child is encouraged to become a respectful, confident, and responsible individual within the community. Our goal is to educate students in a loving, caring and supportive environment where God's love is prevalent. We strive to follow the example of Christ as the teacher as we embrace the joys and challenges of our vocation which is to assist parents in cultivating the mind, body, and heart of each child entrusted to us.
Class sizes are small and discipline is consistent, loving, and Christian. Students are challenged to make good choices and to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Activities and lessons are designed to ensure a developmentally appropriate, child-centered program. It is our belief that young children learn best through both structured activities using their 5 senses and free play. The preschool's program is also designed to enhance a child's social skills and self-image. In order to be successful learners, cooperation, turn-taking, and problem-solving skills must be developed. In addition, it's important that young children feel confident in their ability to make choices, initiate a learning encounter, ask questions, and use their knowledge.
A certified Early Education teacher and an aide are on staff for each of our classes. Children learn through experience and we strive to open the minds through various activities. A typical day includes free play, circle or gathering time, a group activity, snack, story time, religion, exercise time, learning centers, and reinforcement time for Pre-Kindergarten / T-K students.
Highlights of our School :
Captain Kicks
Captain Kicks is a leader in youth soccer development for children ages 3-5. Our nationally recognized non-competitive skills program offers a high energy, fun, age-appropriate introduction to the wonderful game of soccer. Our innovative curriculum extends beyond physical activity to use creative, simple play activities that incorporate values like teamwork, encouragement, and cooperation. The enhancement of a child's coordination, balance and agility is often seen immediately, but it's the building blocks being created for a life-long love of sports that have the strongest impact. Classes are 40 minutes long and are taught by our experienced and enthusiastic coaches who focus on fun while guiding children through imaginative games that teach basic soccer skills. The classes are held up to 2X a weeks based on the number of children signed up for each session.
